Kaolin Purifying Wash Off Mask

Actually love this. My skin feels so soft when it's washed off!

In short, this smooth, lightweight Korean wash-off mask feels wonderful and makes my skin glow, though I am not sure of the sustained benefits. While based of the ingredients and the Amazon page, this Neaf Neaf Kaolin Mask seems to target oil and pore control, it also seems to be a suitable luxury / indulgence for all skin types. A full review follows.

I am new to masks and I primarily tried this product just based off the reputation of Korean skin-care products, so I had no specific expectations.

My product came packaged in a pinkish-clay-colored Neaf Neaf-branded box about 2 ½” wide, 2 ½“ deep and 3” tall. All writing was in Korean, except ingredients which were listed in both Korean and English. I used a translator to convert all the Korean writing to English as shown in my pictures. Inside the box were a small white spatula about 2 ½” in length and a clear bottle with a lid in the same pinkish-clay color as the box length. The mask formulation, visible in the clear jar also matched. The jar alone is about 2 ½” in diameter and 2 ¾” tall.

The mask ingredients as listed on the box are listed in full at the end of my review*. My understanding of some of the ingredients is as follows. Mineral ingredients (titanium dioxide, kaolin, red iron oxide, and aluminum hydroxide) help absorb excess oil and purify the skin. Titanium oxide might help to brighten the skin at least immediately after mask use as the ingredient is bright and highly reflective. Other ingredients (sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid, glycol, glycerin, and triglycerides) hydrate the skin. Finally, a verity of plant-based ingredients (green tea, hamamelis virginiana, wormwood, lemon, peppermint, St. John's Wort, and sylvia) are to sooth and protect the skin.

Instructions on the box and the jar are to apply an appropriate amount to your washed and dried face, spreading it over your entire face, avoiding the eye and mouth areas. After 10-15 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water. I used the mask basically as instructed, although on some trials I waited longer to rinse off the mask.

The out of the jar and onto my face the formular has a very light airy consistency. The color is a bit brighter pink that the box or the jar. I used the included spatula to get the formula out of the jar and spread on my face. The formula feels cool and smooth going on. I had trouble keeping a consistent thickness across my face, but I attribute this to my inexperience with masks, and not the product. The formula stayed wet on my face for at least 20 minutes; I didn’t test the product further as I understand that clay masks shouldn’t be allowed to dry on the face.

Upon rinsing off the mask, I first noticed how it brightened my skin without a corresponding shine. Again, I attribute that brightening to the titanium dioxide which is highly brightening and reflective. Beyond that it left my face feeling refreshed and perhaps cleaned/ tightened my pores. The brightening effect was temporary while the refreshed /pore-tightened feeling last for hours or even overnight.

Overall, I am happy with this product. I found the that mask feels great in a wonderfully indulgent way. I do think it is best suited for oily or combination skin, but the formula is safe and well-balanced enough (between purification and hydration), to be used on any skin type. Given I don’t have oily skin, for me it’s an occasional luxury more than a regular part of my skin care routine.

Really good moisturizer, and it does its job well. My hands tend to dry out and crack a lot and this helps prevent that. I use it on my face/neck in the evenings and mornings and it makes my face/beard super soft and easy to shave. No negatives to say about it. I go through a ton of this kind stuff and am always trying out different ones.

I love how light and airy this whipped face mask is! It has a light scent and doesn't dry out my skin like most clay masks. After using it, my skin feels clean and refreshed. I have oily skin, and this mask has helped to keep the oiliness at bay. This is a great find!
